Black lives matter.
And now is the time to do something about it. I urge you to make a donation where you can, no matter how small, to help end racism. Because what has happened in America shows us it’s still a very real problem globally, even if you aren’t aware of it happening where you are.
Being unaware isn’t an excuse. Now is a great time to educate yourself and learn about the impact racism has in every community.
I’ve donated and I urge you to as well.
And before anyone says it, I’d like to add that saying “all lives matter” doesn’t help anything. Of course all lives matter, but right now we’re talking about black lives because they are specifically under threat, and supporting them doesn’t take away from you or other people.
I’m sure you don’t come out against claims to “feed the hungry” by saying “We all need to be fed!” as you chow down on a Sunday roast. You are already being fed and will continue to be fed. Supporting the people who aren’t doesn’t stop you needing to be fed, nor take away your food.
Supporting Black Lives Matter does the same thing, it doesn’t take away from or devalue your life in any way. It protects those that don’t enjoy the privilege of feeling safe or the benefit of feeling that their life is valued.
Do what you can and support Black Lives Matter.
Thank you to Ken at The Humble Penny for the push to write this post.
