Nothing like some self-containment to let you find the time to write eh?
I lost my wager…
My wife is £100 richer and is now the owner of some fancy hand-dyed wool she’s been eyeing up for a long time. And me? I’m happy about it, I had a damn good try but once I missed a day I never managed to catch up before I missed another day, but I did realise I could write much more in a week than I thought.
However I got defeated by my ego before I began, I originally aimed at 30,000 words but decided to go to 50,000. Too big a challenge, I got to the 19th of February and had 23,742 words written when I needed around 29,000. So had I stuck to my original goal I would have made it but this was a step too far.
From the 20th I realised my business focus would be better spent elsewhere which has paid off so far so I made the right move to stop. Till next time.
Anyway, stay safe everyone, keep washing your hands.
Hi Kieran,
Shame you lost the wager but such a good idea!
I would like to know more about the bet… what exactly were you writing about and where were you posting it. Was it the more thoughtful stuff like you post here, or churning out mattress reviews, for example?
I would imagine the latter is far easier to churn out in terms of word count than stuff you actually need to think about.
Now we’re all “stuck” at home it is a great time to think about challenges like this, keep our brains occupied. Although I think I need a more physical one to stop me from becoming a weak/lazy blob, maybe 5000 press ups in a month or something similar (166/day, sounds just about doable as long as I don’t miss a day!)
Cheers for the inspiration as usual
Don’t fall into the trap! 166 a day sounds doable but you will inevitably miss a day then you’ve got 332 to do, eep!
It was blog content for a juicing site I run, so review of juicers and basic blog posts, can you juice garlic, what is the foam on top of juice. So not particularly brain intensive work, and blog posts I could write with a quick read over for grammar rather than full rewrites.
If you think of any other challenges let me know!
