That is the essence of losing weight, no matter what type of diet you’re doing you are having fewer calories than you’re burning and so losing weight.
So why do people flock to diets instead?
Achieving that outcome is much easier if you have rules and guidelines to follow that cause you to be much more engaged and conscious with what you’re eating. It also makes all the decision making much easier, you’re not looking at all the food in the shop deciding on a case by case basis what you’re allowed, you know based on the rules of your diet, if you’re on no or low carbs you can walk past the pasta to the vegetables instead.
I don’t bring this up to talk about losing weight though, what I like is the idea of creating a framework of rules that you can follow to reach your goal. Writing because it’s between 9 and 11 in the morning (a personal rule of mine), going to the gym because it’s Wednesday, even brushing your teeth because you’re going to bed is a rule you follow. You’re not thinking about whether or not you’re going to brush your teeth you just do because it’s bedtime.
And the best part of making your own rules is you completely understand why they’re there and why they’re important so following them becomes all the easier. What I will say though is start with one and stick to it before you bombard yourself with too many and get overwhelmed.
