Yesterday was quite a stressful day, I’d given myself a lot to do over the next two weeks and was feeling pretty overwhelmed by everything. Every part my being wanted to not get started and leave it until tomorrow, to play the guitar or find something else productive to try and alleviate the guilt of not doing what needs to be done.
But I didn’t.
I sat down and found the smallest step I could take to start making headway, which in my case was writing the headings of the article I needed to write. Done, now take the next smallest step, 100 words intro, ok done, and on it went until I was about halfway there and feeling pleased with my progress, compared to the nothing I almost did this was a huge improvement, but still not enough.
So I agreed with myself that if I got the article finished, I could stop, go for a bath, and read my book for the next two hours completely guilt free with a sense of accomplishment. A perfect reward for me that was just enough to let me hang in and get it done.
It’s not always easy to sit down and work, but if you learn to play your own game you can make it happen.
P.S. I’m currently working on changing the domain name of this blog, it’s turning out to be quite difficult so if there are any technical issues over the next few days I apologise.
