I signed up for Headspace several months ago and part of the app is getting daily mindful moments where you get a notification that tells you something about mindfulness and today’s was quite interesting:
“We tend to acknowledge mind states when they ‘arise’, but when did you last acknowledge the ‘end’ of one?”
And it rang true for me as a really interesting point.
But I think it’s also important to acknowledge the end of other things, for instance if you’ve been working on a project and it’s faded away. Rather than feel constant guilt about not working on it you can do one of three things, declare it the end and put it out of your brain, Make the time to carry on and start again, or if you really are too busy figure out when you won’t be, pick a date and decided to carry on then.
I’ve ended a few different projects that haven’t panned out and after several months of guilt and indecision about whether to continue, I can say it feels good to declare the end.
