This is Money on FIRE, a blog where we’re going to talk about – you guessed it – money!
Talking about money means talking about everything. So we’ll be looking at things like health, hobbies and frugality.
Okay… but what is FIRE anyway?
FIRE is short for Financial Independence/Retiring Early.
Retiring Early??? So you’re some kind of trickster that’s going to show me one weird trick to make millions?
Not at all.
You don’t have to win the lottery to become financially independent, and you don’t have to be a corporate CEO to retire early.
Becoming financially independent is the magic moment when your savings are earning enough to cover your living costs. This could come from dividend payouts from shares, renting out a house, or any of the exciting things you can do on the internet to make money.
And retiring early is what comes after, once you have enough money to do whatever the hell you want! You get to shape your own life and create your own happiness – a terrifying but exciting thing to enjoy.
Isn’t it just for wealthy Americans though?
Definitely not. I’m Scottish and live right here in the UK!
There’s a lot of information about retiring early in the States. It’s actually how I first found this lifestyle and adopted it myself. I wanted to write this blog for people in the UK, just like me, who want to retire early and tailor their life to suit them.
Who is this for?
Everyone. Anyone. But if anything below seems familiar then I can definitely help:
- You’re a millennial, fed up of being told you’ll never afford a house or get a good job.
- You’re in a reasonably well-paid job, maybe a graduate.
- You think that having to work until you’re 65 at least seems completely unfair.
- You think only saving 10% of your income isn’t quite enough.
- You want to make some money on the internet but don’t know where to start.
- You’ve never actually considered financial independence as an option but you’re curious. I like you already.
So who are you anyway?
At least that’s what you can call me. I’m in my mid-twenties and financially independent.
I didn’t get here through some sort of trickery, a huge inheritance, or just dumb luck. I started my own online business. It earns enough that it covers all my living costs and requires minimal input.
But don’t worry, that isn’t the only way you can become financially independent. There are loads of different ways you can get here and I’m going to talk about all of them.
What Do I Need From You?
I’ll be the Flint if you be the FIRE but I can only do this with your help. I need you to read, ask, criticise, learn and share. I need you to comment on the articles, ask questions, let me know how I can help.
Just join in and we can make this ours.
